Monica Anne Campbell Matus, 22, of Chicago, Illinois died unexpectedly Friday, April 5, 2013, in Marquette.
Monica was born on August 5, 1990 in Winfield, Illinois and was a 2008 graduate of Waubonsie Valley High School in Aurora, Illinois. She had been studying art, film, creative writing, and education at Northern Michigan University since 2008.
Monica enjoyed traveling the world, even spending a summer semester studying in Japan in 2011. She loved all things Disney. She saw the artistic value of Disney and often visited Disney World.
She is survived by her parents, Rudy Matus of Batavia, IL and Theresa Campbell of Chicago, IL; her maternal grandmother, Margaret Campbell; aunts and uncles, Mary Gebhardt, Joseph Campbell, Patricia Vicars, Thomas Campbell, Robert Campbell, Gerette Pease, Teresa Camp, Steven Matus, and Christopher Matus; also numerous cousins and her significant friend, Asa Faust-Smith . She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Alfred Campbell; paternal grandparents, Rudolph J. and Mary Matus, and step-grandmother, Georgene Matus.
A celebration of Monica's life with sharing of memories, poems and songs (media: DVD –R or iPod for music) will take place on Wednesday, April 10th at 7:00 in the evening in the Canale-Tonella Funeral Home. Please come prepared to share a memory you have of Monica as well.
A sunrise flower petal ceremony will be held at the Coast Guard Lighthouse at McCarty's Cove on Thursday, April 11th at 8 a.m.
