Carl P. Menze, 69, of 585 Silver Creek Road, Harvey, died early Sunday morning, February 10, 2008 at his home following a lengthy illness.

Carl was born on October 6, 1938 in Marquette to the late Franz and Amelia Brunngraeber Menze and lived in this area most of his life.

He briefly worked for International Truck in Chicago as a welder. Returning to Marquette, Carl worked with his family at the Menze Construction Company, later starting Wolverine Supply in 1970, which he owned and operated until retiring in 1991.

Carl was a member of St. Louis the King Catholic Church in Harvey and was a former member of the Marquette Exchange Club.

He is survived by his wife, the former Kathryn Wuorenmaa who he married on August 3, 1963 at St. Peter's Cathedral in Marquette; three children, Peter Debra Menze of Marquette, William Menze and his fiancé, Mary Myers of Escanaba, and Ann Brian St. Pierre of Ishpeming; four grandchildren, Eric and Matthew Menze and Brandon and Brittany St.Pierre; one sister, Anne Menze of Marquette; two brothers, Joseph Kay Menze of Ontonagon and Herman Menze of Gilbert, AZ; also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death besides his parents was a brother, Paul Menze and a sister, Mary Thomas.

Visitation will be on Wednesday from 12:30 until 2 p.m. at St. Louis the King Catholic Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Ben Paris officiating. Burial will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Eric and Matthew Menze, Brandon St.Pierre, Benjamin Ferris, Dale Johnson and Karl Kaukola. Honorary bearers will be Joe Menze, Loren Gies, John Manchester, Russell Dees and Alan Crick.
