Ward W. Dewitt, 79, of Marquette, died Friday morning, November 11, 2016 at his home. He was born March 20, 1937 in Sault Ste. Marie, MI, a son of the late Chester and Margaret (Clegg) Dewitt. Ward worked as a barber in Newberry before moving to Marquette where he opened Queen City Barber Shop in 1971 and had operated the business up until his passing. He was an avid Detroit Tigers & Lions fan. He enjoyed hunting camp with his boys, golf, cribbage and played fast pitch softball for Remillards and the Northwoods for many years. Ward also loved his dogs. He is survived by his wife, Lucy Dewitt, whom he married in Marquette on August 20, 2005; children, Jeff (Ellen) Dewitt, Dale (Darlene) Dewitt, Rick (Connie) Dewitt, Tim (Mary) Dewitt, Steve Dewitt and Sandy (Bryan) Kalbfleisch; step-children, Lorna (Luke) Rhyner and Bill Hughes; numerous grandchildren & great-grandchildren; and a brother, Wade (Judy) Dewitt. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Delores Dewitt in 1996. Friends may call at the Canale-Tonella Funeral Home on Sunday, November 13, 2016 from 3 to 6 p.m. A parish prayer service will be held at 6 p.m. in the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, November 14, 2016 at 11 a.m. in St. Peter Cathedral with Rev. Msgr. Michael Steber officiating. Interment will take place in Hulbert Cemetery.
