Steven J. "Steve" Nesbitt, 66, of Republic, passed away unexpectedly Thursday morning, October 27, 2016 at his residence. Steve was born on September 17, 1950 in Marquette, a son of the late Robert J. Nesbitt (Ellie) and Margaret A. "Peggy" (Rushford) Nesbitt. He graduated from Marquette Senior High School in 1968. Steve spanned an eclectic career including working for the family owned pizza business, Nebbo's, in Marquette, construction work in Southern California, Oregon, Nebraska, and Colorado; he was a former ultra-light pilot and instructor and finally settled back in the U.P. to be closer to his family. Among his other employment, Steve took great pride in being on the team of the historic Landmark Inn as a restoration project manager. For many years, Steve found his niche as property manager at Lost Lake Lodge in Republic. He was a certified instructor for the NRA, enjoyed scuba diving in younger years and being in the outdoors. Steve loved and lived for his dogs, Archie, Tanner and Nikka, and was an avid advocate for animal rescue and adoption. Survivors include his daughter, Nicole (Tim) Nesbitt Dahl of Marquette; his son, Adam (Jolene) Nesbitt of Lincoln, Nebraska; six grandchildren, Erin, Hailey, Ashton, Khyler, Summer, and Lahnah; seven siblings, Dianne (Scott) Fleury, Faye (Sam) Elder and Vicki Nesbitt, all of Marquette, Michael (Denice) Detroit of Tennessee, Jim (Lisa) Cox of Ohio, Bob (Laura) Nesbitt of California, Cindy (Will) DePetro of Marquette; also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. During family time at the lodge, Steve enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews, 4-wheeling, snowmobiling, fishing, hunting, target shooting, and canoeing, Steve's family finds comfort knowing how much he was loved. The family will greet relatives and friends on Tuesday, November 1 at the Canale-Tonella Funeral Home in Marquette from 11 am. until the time of a memorial service at 1 p.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. William Payne presiding. Inurnment will take place at Northland Chapel Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to UPAWS, PO Box 968, Marquette, MI 49855 in Steve's memory.
