Shirley L. Hendrickson, 85, of Marquette, died peacefully, Sunday afternoon, September 18, 2016 at the Norlite Nursing Center. A lifelong area resident, Shirley was born on February 4, 1931 in Marquette, one of five children born to Charles and Agnes (Lidbom) Smyth. She attended Marquette schools and graduated from the former Graveraet High School in 1948. On August 2, 1952, Shirley married Russell Hendrickson at the Federated Women's Club in Marquette and together they enjoyed 52 years of marriage. Shirley and Russell owned and operated Northern Awning and Window Company from 1958 until their retirement in 1987. In her free time, she enjoyed knitting and playing piano. Shirley organized "The Men Singing Gospel" quartet that performed throughout all of Marquette County for several years. She also held many Bible studies where she met and held very special friendships. She was a very devoted grandmother. As she got older, Shirley often worked on Word Search to keep her mind sharp. She is survived by five children, Anna (Gary) Erickson of Skandia, Peter Hendrickson of Marquette, Mark Hendrickson of Eaton Rapids, MI, Rebecca (William) Sovine of Burr Oak, MI and Tony (Jill) Hendrickson of Marquette; 14 grandchildren, Andrew and Anthony Erickson, James, Justin and Jake Hendrickson, Phillip and Charles Hendrickson, Tommy (Kristy) McLimans, Matthew (Angela) McLimans, Luke (Leilani) McLimans, John and James Hendrickson, Heidi (Josh) Gorsalitz, and Jeremy (Kelly) Hendrickson; 18 great grandchildren, four siblings, Daniel (Suzanne) Smyth of Missouri, William (Joyce) Smyth and Sandra (David) Seppanen, both of Skandia, and Dorothy Lampi of North Carolina; also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Agnes Smyth; her husband, Russell on October 25, 2006; also a son, Tod Hendrickson on September 19, 1999.
