Sally Jo Peters, 65, of Little Lake, passed away in the loving care of her family and the MQT General ICU medical unit midnight July 17, 2017. Sally Jo was born September 28, 1951 in Berkley, MI to James and Loretta Force. She attended Berkley High School, Northern Michigan University and the School of Cosmetology. Sally worked as the stylist at the Grand Hotel on Mackinaw Island, spending winters in Chicago, IL, before finally moving back to the Marquette area where she opened a small shop. She married Harvey Peters in 1990 and, while not raised in the Upper Peninsula, she was a true ‘Yooper’ and had no intentions to live anywhere else. An accomplished baker, Sally was especially proud of her famous apple pie, the making of which, a family secret, she recently passed on to her children. She enjoyed few things more than working in her garden on a sunny summer day. She quickly learned any craft she turned her mind to, including sewing, crochet, and painting - particularly watercolor painting. Most people who knew her - family, friends, neighbors, and acquaintances - today need only take a few steps in their homes to lay hands on a piece of art or craftwork she made, with love, just for them. The sound of her unique laugh and her quick wit are a legacy she passed on to her children and all who knew her. Sally is survived by her husband, Harvey Peters, to whom she was married for 27 years; her sons, Austin Peters and Jesse Larson; her daughter, Nicole (T.J.) Wright; three sisters, Kathy (Ron) Astro, Mary (Gary) Navarre, Judy Cauley; and six brothers, James (Robin) Force, Denny (Cyd) Force, William (Mary Lynn) Force, David(Cathy) Force, Patrick (Susie) Force, Tom (Laura) Force. She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Loretta Force, and her granddaughter Ida Mae Avellone. There will be a family gathering and celebration of Sally’s life in August in the Detroit area. “Cosmos Mariner - Destination Unknown.” The Canale-Gwinn Funeral Home is assisting the family where memories may be shared at canalefuneral.com
