Matthew Nickerson was born September 25, 1976 and died on April 17, 2017 at the age of 40. He was more than a special baby and quadriplegic man. Since childhood, his personality was all smiles and sunshine. He became a Brea, California poster baby and received a proclamation from the mayor for helping to raise more than $100,000 for early prevention classes for babies with disabilities. He went on to Florida to increase handicap parking for people with disabilities from $5.00 to currently $850.00 or more. Matthew was on numerous TV programs in California, Florida and Michigan to promote awareness and helping to fund different programs for all disabilities. Matthew made a difference by just smiling and he touched everyone who ever met him with just a smile. Matthew made a difference! He passed away from a sudden heart attack on April 17, 2017. His smile will always remain in all of our minds and for those who knew him. We are blessed to have that memory. Matthew is survived by his mother, Gloria Nickerson; brothers, John and Tim Nickerson; Aunt Clara and Uncle Tom and family, Uncle Danny, Aunt Bev and family, Aunt Cindy, Uncle Art and family, Aunt Marie, great Aunt Marie, Aunt Ruthann, Uncle Kurt and family, Uncle Rick, Aunt Laura, Uncle Rodney, Aunt Kathy and family, Uncle Terry, Aunt Diane and family as well as numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Tim Nickerson; grandparents, John and Mae Macko; grandfather, Tim Nickerson and Uncle John Macko. Matthew was respectfully and quietly cremated and had a private memorial service in conjunction with his grandmother’s service, Veda Macko Kanerva.
