Mark Andrew “ Marcus” Pennell died peacefully of apparent heart failure in his home. He was 53. Mark was born June 8, 1964 to Arthur and Phyllis Pennell, the youngest of five children. He graduated from Marquette Senior High School in 1982 and moved to Florence, Wisconsin. He received an Associate Degree in Radiography from Lakeshore Technical College in 2005 and was employed for a number of years at Dickinson Memorial Hospital as an x-ray technician. He recently returned to the Marquette area where he worked at Econo Foods as a baker. Marcus liked to laugh and make people laugh and had a bright, infectious smile. He inherited his father’s passion for words and his mother’s ability to see the best in everyone. Mark was at home in and on the water, enjoyed traveling and had seen and appreciated much of what the world had to offer, but was just as happy to be on the shores of Lake Superior and Lake Michigan. His loved music and his taste was exceptional and broad. He was an avid golfer and liked all sports, but hockey was his favorite and he was a lifelong Chicago Blackhawks fan. Mark is survived by his two children, Jamie Lee Pennell of North Carolina and Nicolas Arthur Pennell of Michigan; four siblings, Debbie (Rob) Ross, Leslie (Doug Danforth) Jackson, Tracy (Emmanuel) Feliz, Jim (Barbara Knox) Pennell and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother, Phyllis Pennell and his father, Arthur Pennell. A service celebrating Mark’s life will be held Saturday, September 2nd at 2 pm at the cottage where he felt most at home, located at 4727 Michibay Road in Manistique, Michigan. All who had their lives touched by Mark are invited and those that are unable to attend are encouraged to post memories or thoughts of Mark on the Canale - Tonella Funeral Home website. In lieu of flowers donations can be directed to Marquette Hope or the Mission Bible Training Camp in Gaastra, Mi.
