Judith Ann Spencer, age 74, Marquette resident, passed away Friday, August 18, 2017. Judy was born May 1, 1943 in Ishpeming to John Hudson and Olive Margaret (Phillips) Spencer. Judy graduated from Ishpeming High School, class of 1961, then received a Bachelor’s degree in Speech Therapy and a Master’s degree in Education from Northern Michigan University. Judy worked as a speech therapist primarily for the Gwinn School District, retiring after working 30 years. Judy belonged to the MEA (Michigan Education Association) and NEA (National Education Association). She enjoyed photography, listening to music, and was an avid reader. Judy also enjoyed hosting family and friends for dinners, luncheons with the girls, but most of all enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Judy is survived by two sons, P. Scott Spencer and Jon E. Spencer, both of Marquette; three grandchildren, Alec, Madison and Carter. Judy’s “favorite guys” in her life are lifelong friend and travel companion, Bill Bennett of Ishpeming, former husband, Paul Hannuksela of Marquette, and mentor & friend, Sonny Longtine of Marquette; along with numerous cousins and lifelong friends. Judy was preceded in death by her father, John H. Spencer, mother, Olive Yonkman and step-father, Father Bob Yonkman. Judy’s family will greet relatives and friends from 10 am to 12 Noon on Saturday, August 26, 2017 in the Canale-Tonella Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home at Noon with Rev. Jim Martindale officiating followed by a wonderful luncheon celebration. Interment will take place in the Ishpeming Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the American Diabetes Association or Bay Cliff Health Camp in Judy’s memory.
