Isabel Tonn-Haley, 91, of Marquette, died peacefully Saturday morning, July 15, 2017 at her home. Isabel was born on September 20, 1925 in Escanaba, Michigan, daughter of the late Arthur and Sophia (Makosky) Hammerberg. She was a 1943 graduate of Escanaba High School and an NMU graduate with a teaching certificate. Isabel taught school from 1945-1983 mostly for Marquette Area Public Schools. In her free time, she enjoyed gardening, embroidering and spending quality time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Isabel was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church as well as their Club 54 and was a member of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel. Survivors include four children, Dale Tonn, Diane Brosious, Gary (Deborah) Tonn and Scott Tonn, all of Marquette; two sisters, Barbara Hammerberg of Escanaba and Mickey (David) Kaufman of Winona Lake, IN; also 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death besides her parents was her first husband, Robert Tonn in June of 1976, second husband, Robert J. Haley in July of 1994 and a sister, Betty Huff in May of 2017. Visitation will take place at Redeemer Lutheran Church on Friday from 2 to 3:30 p.m. where a funeral service will take place in the church at 3:30 p.m. with the Rev. Chad Ott officiating. Burial will take place at Northland Chapel Gardens. Dale, Gary and Scott Tonn and Reggie Gebo will serve as her escorts. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans Activity Fund, 425 Fisher St., Marquette, MI 49855 in Isabel’s memory.
