Helen P. McCracken, 99, of Marquette, passed away peacefully Thursday evening, November 10, 2016 at Teal Lake Assisted Living in Negaunee with her family at her side and under the care of Lake Superior Hospice. Helen was born on March 19, 1917 in Palmer, Michigan, a daughter of Clinton and Jennie (Rex) Grigg and was a 1934 graduate of Ishpeming High School. Helen attended St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing graduating in 1939 with a Registered Nurse degree. She was formerly employed at St. Luke's Hospital in Marquette and Kellogg Hospital in Coldwater. Helen worked with her late husband, Jack, in operating the Swanson Funeral Home from 1948-1976. She was a member of the Elba Morse Retired Nurse's Association, the Michigan Nurse's Association and St. Luke's Alumni. She and Jack were long time members of the Cotillion Club in Marquette. She was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church in Marquette and in her free time, was an avid walker and enjoyed golf scrambles with friends. She enjoyed reading and discussing politics. Helen is survived by one daughter, Marcia Kay McCracken of Marquette as well as many nieces and nephews including a special niece, Diane Garrett of Ishpeming and very special friend, Carol Koski. Preceding her in death besides her parents was her husband, Jack L. McCracken on September 21, 2004; a son, Larry McCracken in 1949; three brothers, Howard E., Gordon C. and Roy Grigg; two sisters-in-law, Marion Grigg and Marjorie Grigg. A funeral service will be held at First United Methodist Church in Marquette on Wednesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev's. Kristi and Christopher Hintz presiding. The family will greet relatives and friends on Wednesday beginning at 12 Noon until the time of the service in the church. Burial will take place in the Park Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to Trillium House, Marquette Regional History Center or the Peter White Public Library in Mrs. McCracken's memory. The Canale-Tonella Funeral Home is assisting the family where memories may be shared at
