Gary Lee Duer, "Slim," age 80, of Marquette, passed away Monday morning, December 12, 2016 at his home in the presence of his loving family and under the care of U.P. Home Health and Hospice. Slim was born on November 21, 1936 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, a son of the late Lloyd and Myrtle (Anderson) Duer and resided in the Marquette area most of his life. He retired from Pellow Roofing in 1998 and was a longtime member of the Roofers Union Local #149. Slim loved spending time with his grandchildren as well as going to the casino. He was known to be a "straight shooter" and did not mince words. Survivors include 8 children, Robert Duer of Marquette, Kathy Doutree of Phoenix, AZ, Debbie Ogea of Greensboro, NC, Pamela (Anthony) Harry, Brenda Marcotte, Bradley Hase, Christine Ellis and Kelly (Kirk) Lawry, all of Marquette; 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; siblings, Donna (Richard) Clark, Sharon (Larry) Kleckner, and Randy (Sally) Duer, all of Marquette and Sandra (Frank) Hayek of Sheboygan, WI; also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and his beloved canine companion, Maggie. Preceding him in death besides his parents was a brother, Eugene Duer. A celebration of Slim's life with food and fellowship and memories will take place on Friday, December 16th from 1 to 4 p.m. At American Legion Post #44 in Marquette.
