Elode Veiht, 94, of Marquette, passed away Thursday morning, September 21, 2017 at Brookridge Heights Assisted Living surrounded by her family and under the care of U.P. Home Health & Hospice. Elode was born on March 29, 1923 in Marinette, Wisconsin, a daughter of the late William and Clyrinda (Payment) Valind. She graduated from Gladstone High School in 1941. She was employed by the State of Michigan Employment Agency for several years prior to getting married and starting her family. Elode enjoyed gardening and was known as the “Cookie Lady” for her love of baking and giving her baked goods to many other people. She always began her Christmas baking in October. More than anything else, Elode enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren and extensive travel with her husband after they retired especially to Mazatlan, Mexico and Sarasota, Florida. Elode was an active member of St. Michael Catholic Church and its altar society for over 40 years. Survivors include three children, Ann Kuhnle of Marquette, John (Deborah) Veiht of Marquette and Jim (Darlene) Veiht of Negaunee; four grandchildren, Erik (Karen) Kuhnle of Marquette; Michael (Sarah)Veiht of North Royalton, OH, James Veiht of Negaunee and Dustin (Jessica) Veiht of Ishpeming; also four great grandchildren, several step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Valind of Wausaukee, WI. Preceding her in death besides her parents was her husband, John T. “Jack” Veiht on February 18, 2016; also a brother, Pete Valind. The Veiht family will greet relatives and friends on Monday, September 25th from 10:30 a.m. to 12 Noon at St. Michael Catholic Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the church at 12 Noon with the Rev. Greg Heikkala officiating. A luncheon will be served in the Zyrd Parish Center immediately following the Mass. Burial will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Michael Veiht, Dustin Veiht, James Veiht, and Erik Kuhnle. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy are kindly asked to consider St. Michael Catholic Church, 401 W. Kaye Ave., Marquette, MI 49855.
