Edward L. Buys, 82, of Marquette, passed away Wednesday morning, June 21, 2017 at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in the comforting presence of his family and under the care of Lake Superior Hospice. Ed was born on February 21, 1935 in Marquette to the late Alphonse and Alvina (Juenemann) Buys and had been a lifelong Marquette resident. He was a 1953 graduate of Bishop Baraga High School. From 1958-60, Ed proudly served his country with the U.S. Army in France in a field hospital. He was employed by The Mining Journal for 35 years working in the composing room until his retirement in 1995. Ed was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church as well as Msgr. Nolan B. McKevitt Knights of Columbus Council #689. Survivors include a brother, D. Joseph (Mary) Buys of Marquette; two sisters, Elizabeth Beauchamp of Marquette and Ann Marie “Dorothy” Wyrsch of St. Charles, MO; also nieces and nephews, Patty (David) Smith, Edward (Gail) Beauchamp, Ann (Dennis) Bocklund, and Cathy (Paul) Campbell, all of Marquette. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. Michael Catholic Church with the Rev. Greg Heikkala officiating. Edward’s family will greet relatives and friends one hour prior to the Mass at the church. A luncheon will take place immediately following in the Msgr. Zyrd Parish Center. Burial will take place at the Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Catholic Relief Services, 228 W. Lexington St., Baltimore, MD 21201. The Canale-Tonella Funeral Home is assisting the family where memories may be shared at .
