Edward A. "Ed" Sather, 74, of Gwinn, passed away unexpectedly at his home Friday morning, October 7, 2016. Ed was born on May 7, 1942 in Ishpeming to the late Orville and Emma (Willette) Sather and had been a lifelong Gwinn resident. He was a 1960 graduate of Gwinn High School where he lettered in track and was the vice president of his senior class. Ed served two tours of duty during the Vietnam war with the U.S. Air Force where he was stationed in the Philippines. He returned to Gwinn after the war and worked at the former K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base for over 27 years in flight line refueling and housing maintenance. He retired in 1989. In his free time, Ed enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, mushroom picking, relaxing at home and forever teasing his nieces and nephews. Surviving are three siblings, Julie A. (Doug) Jacob, Aaron Sather and Susan Fosterling, all of Gwinn; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; also three great nephews, Jensen Sather, Joshua and Zachary Shrom. Preceding him in death besides his parents was a sister-in-law, Lori Sather in 2015. A celebration of Ed's life will take place on Saturday, May 6, 2017 from 4 to 8 pm in the Gwinn VFW. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to UPAWS, PO Box 968, Marquette, MI 49855 in Ed's memory.
