On Thursday, 1 June, 2017, Donald J. Bianchi, Sr. 63 of Gwinn, Michigan, surrounded by family at home, left this life and rode his Harley into heaven after a brief illness. Born in Stambaugh, MI he found his way to Sands Township, Michigan and married his wife and best friend of 38 years. Together they raised three awesome, but modest and humble children in Harvey before moving to their retirement home in Gwinn. The past 11 winters were spent in Lakeland, Florida where he was glad he didn’t have to shovel snow. Being an industrious person he spent 33 years working at the Empire Mine in Palmer. Don quite possibly could have been the most interesting man in the world. He adored his family, motorcycles, classic cars, history, and cheap beer. He could fix just about anything and relished in helping others. As a man of few words he always had a nugget of wisdom to share and enjoyed telling really bad dad jokes. He knew how to make people laugh and inspired others when they needed it the most. Known by his family for his fashion sense, Don liked to wear tank tops, black t-shirts, jeans, aviator sunglasses and bandanas. On occasion he was known to surprise his family with a particularly interesting fashion choice. Always comfortable in his own skin, he never tried to be anything other than himself. He was just as stubborn as he was kindhearted. A void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him will forever be felt. He is survived by his beloved wife, Susan Bianchi (nee Dore) of Gwinn; his three children Jessica (Jeremy) Tierney of Bargersville, IN, Michelle Bianchi of St. Louis, MO, D.J. (Ellen) Bianchi of Grand Blanc, MI; his five grandchildren, Felix, Zoe, and Piper Tierney and Leo and Enzo Bianchi; his step-mother Susie (Doug) Linder of Wisconsin; father in-law John Dore of Munising, MI; brothers and sisters in-law Mike (Jan) Dore, Steve (Kelly) Dore, Karen (Dave) Dickson, and Josh (Mary) Dore along with many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his daughter Emily Bianchi, his mother Constance (nee Panek) Vicklund, his father William Billy Bianchi, his sister Karen Bianchi and mother in-law Joyce Dore. Family, friends, and others whose lives Don touched are invited to celebrate his life. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Rev. Allen Mott officiating. Visitation will be held in the Baraga Room at the church for one hour prior to the mass. A luncheon will follow in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Don’s name to Lake Superior Hospice in Marquette. The Bianchi family would like to extend our eternal gratitude to all the staff at Lake Superior hospice for their attentiveness and loving care. “ To laugh often and much; To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.” -Ralph Waldo Emerson The Canale-Gwinn Funeral Home is assisting the family where memories may be shared at
