Dean Louis LaJoye, 77, of Marquette, died Friday evening, February 3, 2017 at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born January 21, 1940 in Baraga, Michigan, a son of the late Louis and Eileen (Goodreau) LaJoye and was a 1958 graduate of L'Anse High School. On November 25, 1961 he married Delores Clow at St. Joseph Church in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Dean was employed for 37 years as a heavy equipment operator with the Operating Engineers Local 324 and had worked on projects throughout the Upper Peninsula. He later was employed by the Diocese of Marquette working in sales at Holy Cross Cemetery and retired after 16 years. He was a member of St. Louis the King Catholic Church and served as a Eucharistic Minister and lector. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Bishop Frederick Baraga Snowshoe Pries Assembly #469, served as Past Faithful Navigator, member of St. Louis the King Council #6447, and also served as Past District Deputy, former Major Degree Team Captain and Past Grand Knight. He also was a member of the St. Vincent De Paul Society and the Marquette Male Chorus. His interests included gardening and collecting "treasures". Dean is survived by his wife of 55 years, Delores LaJoye of Marquette; children, Todd (Karey) LaJoye of Marquette, Cynthia (Scott) Leist of Petoskey, MI and Trevor (Lisa) LaJoye of Lindstrom, MN; grandchildren, Nathan & Nicholas LaJoye, Logan and Ryley Leist and Olivia, Jackson and Noah LaJoye; siblings, Patricia Holmquist of Bradenton, FL, Garry LaJoye of Farwell, MI, Gale (Dotty) LaJoye of Marquette and Mark (Martha) LaJoye of Columbus, GA; brother's and sister's-in-law, Leo (Sharon) Clow of Midland, MI, Jay (Dee) Clow of Brimley, MI, Gary (Carrie) Clow of Sault Ste. Marie, MI, Duane (Nancy) Clow of Delton, MI, Ivan (Marcia) Clow of Sault Ste. Marie, Kareen (Robert) Brown of Dafter, MI, Nyle (Ruth) Clow of Sault Ste. Marie and Jerry Clow of Sault Ste. Marie. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 from 10 am to 12 Noon at St. Louis the King Catholic Church. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Noon in the church with Rev. Glenn Theoret officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church hall. Interment will take place in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the St. Louis the King Catholic Church Women's Club or St. Vincent De Paul Society of Marquette.
