Brian David "Bernie" Pelto, 57, of Marquette, passed away peacefully at his home Thursday afternoon, March 2, 2017 in the comfort of his loving family, surrounded by friends, and under the care of U.P. Home Health and Hospice. Brian was born on May 25, 1959 in Marquette to Bern and Dona (Remillard) Pelto and was a lifelong area resident. He was a 1977 graduate of Marquette Senior High School where he lettered in football and basketball all four years. He later attended Palm Beach Junior College as well as Northern Michigan University. Brian also lived a few years in Colorado. Brian worked as an independent carpenter for many years. When he was not at work, he surrounded himself with numerous friends and sought enjoyment in the outdoors. He loved to go fishing and camping, initially in a tent and ultimately a motor home. Brian was a true Packer fan and even owned a share of Packers stock. Brian is survived by his father, Bern Pelto; brother, Steve (Wendy) Pelto; two nieces, Courtney Pelto who he was also a Godfather to and Meredith Pelto, all of Marquette. He is also survived by his uncle and aunt, Bob and Terry Davis of Palm Beach Gardens, FL and their children, Kelli (Corey) Park and Tim Davis, both of Virginia. He leaves special friends, Bob (Julie) Mingay, Cheryl Duer, Dan Klumb, Henry Isabelle, Bob (Carol) Struck, Jim Hunter, Joe DesJardins, Ernie Williams, Sue Carlson, and Alice Reynolds. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Dona Pelto on May 30, 2010 and his faithful companion, Ruby. Funeral services for Brian will be held in the Canale-Tonella Funeral Home on Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Msgr. Michael Steber officiating. The Pelto family will greet relatives and friends beginning at 12 Noon until the time of the service on Sunday. A luncheon will be served in the funeral home immediately following with interment to take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the MSHS Class of 1977 Scholarship Fund c/o of the Community Foundation of Marquette County, PO Box 37, Marquette, MI 49855 in Brian's memory.
