Betty E. (Demaray) Deschaine, 94, joyfully went to be with our Lord and Savior on October 2, 2016. She had been a resident of Norlite Nursing Center for a year. Betty was born on January 5, 1922 in Cadillac, MI to Ora (Capt.) and Gladys (Head) Demaray. She moved to Marquette at an early age as her father was a Captain of the Michigan State Police and was assigned to the U.P. Betty graduated from Graveraet High School in 1941. She married Leo T. (Dusty) Deschaine in 1946 and they enjoyed 57 years together until his death in 2003. Betty worked in San Diego, CA as a riveter during World War II, where her husband to be (Dusty) was stationed as a Marine. She was also employed as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone, a sales person at J.C. Penny's and assistant to Dr. Walter Norris, Optometrist, for many years. She loved working at elections. After retiring, she spent her time playing cards, avidly reading over 2, 000 books and working crossword puzzles. She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church. She is survived by a daughter, Kathleen Pesola; granddaughters, Kristy Pesola of Marquette and Laurie Pesola of Mounds View, MN; a great grandson, Anthony Pesola; nephew, Michael (Pauline) Werner and niece, Sally (Patrick) Werner-Lemmers. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son-in-law, William Pesola, sister and brother-in-law, Jed and Shirley Werner and niece, Patricia Werner. A commemoration of her life will be held at St. Michael Catholic Church on Thursday, October 6, 2016, with the Rev. Fr. Greg Heikkala officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends from 11 a.m. to 12 Noon, with the Mass of Christian Burial being celebrated at 12:00 p.m. in the church. A luncheon will be served in the Zyrd Parish Center followed by entombment at the Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be Kristy, Laurie and Anthony Pesola and Michael Werner. Our thanks to the staff at Norlite who took such good care of Betty. She really enjoyed being a resident there. Also, thank you to the Canale-Tonella Funeral Home for their professional and compassionate services. The Canale-Tonella Funeral Home is assisting the Deschaine family where memories may be shared at
